Most people who go looking are pushed rather than pulled — by the price, by the battery, or by finding out what happens to the location data. This page is the honest version of the comparison: what we do differently, what Life360 still does better, and where our own free tier is thinner than theirs.
The data. In December 2021 The Markup reported that Life360 was selling precise location data to roughly a dozen data brokers, and that the company earned about $16 million from location data in 2020. Life360 has since said it stopped selling precise data to brokers. We have never sold location data to anyone, and there is no line item in our business that could.
The price. Life360’s published price for its Plus plan went from $24.99 to $49.99 a year in October 2025.
The teenager. A tracker the tracked person resents is a tracker that gets switched off, left at a friend’s house, or fed a spare phone. That is the problem we designed around.
| TribeSentry | Life360 | |
|---|---|---|
| Selling location data | Never, to anyone | Sold to data brokers until at least 2021, per The Markup |
| See who checked on you | Every look, logged and shown to the person looked at | Not shown |
| SOS with no data connection | Falls back to a text message carrying your coordinates | Sent over the internet |
| Works with no signal | Offline maps you download first | Needs a connection |
| Location history kept | Deleted automatically after 7 days | 30 days on paid plans |
The history row is the one people read twice. A shorter history is the feature: a record that does not exist cannot be sold, subpoenaed, or leaked.
A comparison page that only flatters the author is worth nothing, so here is the other column.
If emergency dispatch or roadside cover is the reason you pay, Life360 is the better buy and we would rather say so than win the click.
Everything that matters in an emergency is free: live location, SOS with the offline text fallback, crash detection, arrival and late alerts, battery and speed alerts, and the record of who checked on you. TribeSentry+ adds the full 7-day history with route playback, unlimited territories, offline map downloads, and removes ads. It is priced in your own currency in the app.
We charge for history depth because storing it is what actually costs us money. We do not charge for safety, because a paywall in front of an SOS button is the wrong product.
